Understanding Weld symbols – The groove weld
Description:Notice that the spacing, or pitch, is not the clear space between the welds, but the center-to-center or end-to-end distance. A PJP weld only fills a portion of the gap as seen in Figure 5. Groove Welds The groove weld is commonly used to make edge-to-edge joints, although it is also often used in corner joints, T joints, and joints between curved and flat pieces. Before a welded joint can be made on a project, it must be proven that the weld can be made using the desired materials and attain the required strength and ductility. This opening is used to provide access for the welding electrode and improve penetration of the weld to the workpieces.
