Description:As the satellite moves towards the beacon, the Doppler shift increases the received frequency of the beacon signal; when the satellite passes over the beacon, there is no Doppler shift; when the satellite moves away from the beacon, the Doppler shift decreases the frequency of the beacon signal. It has a ground system set up across India -- 15 reference stations, three satellite uplink stations, and three control centers -- plus payloads on geostationary satellites. They were also carried by Soviet-Russian Nadezhda navigation satellites, now out of service. If the satellite were simply flying in a straight line over a flat immobile surface that would be impossible, but the real world is not flat and it is rotating under the satellite track, "skewing" the position vectors so that the change in angle of the vectors as the satellite passes is compressed slightly on the "correct" side of the track and expanded slightly on the "wrong" side of the track. GPS-enabled smartphones are so cheap and widespread that they have driven dedicated handheld GPS receiver units out of business. Given the vast uninhabited regions of the state, the search was like hunting for a needle in a haystack; the plane and its passengers were never found. A GBAS consists of four GPS augmentation stations set up around an airport, along with a processor and a radio system for communications with airliners.
